Most of the furniture you buy goes through rapid machine production. At betoniq. we do it differently. Each of our stone bedside tables , stools or side tables is the result of handwork, precision and patience.
It's not just about concrete - it's about the craftsmanship and unique design that is born in our workshop. Let's take a look at what it takes to transform raw materials into a piece of furniture that will last for generations.
Phase 1: Solid foundations and framework
The key to our micro concrete furniture is its lightness and stability . That's why we don't work with solid, heavy concrete.
-
Construction: The foundation is a strong but lightweight wooden frame or board. It must be perfectly flat and prepared to withstand the moisture that the microconcrete will introduce into it in the subsequent stages.
-
Substrate preparation: The surface of the frame is painted with a special penetrating paint . This ensures that the microconcrete layer adheres perfectly and there is no cracking or peeling in the future (the most common problem with cheap imitations).
Phase 2: Masterful application of microconcrete
This is where the real craftsmanship begins. Microconcrete is not just any screed – it is a two-component composite mixture based on cement and polymers, which is applied by hand in very thin layers.
-
First coat (Anchoring layer): We apply the first, very thin and strong layer. This layer is crucial for mechanical resistance. After drying, it is finely sanded.
-
Second and third layer (Texture and Color): More layers follow. Each is applied with a special spatula to create a unique, unrepeatable patina . It's like painting - you need a feel for the material, the pressure of the spatula and the speed of the stroke. At this stage, the final texture (smooth, matte, finely textured) is decided .
-
Sanding (Final Finish): Each layer is sanded by hand after drying . The goal is to remove gross imperfections but retain the natural texture. Only through sanding will the depth and beauty of the material emerge.
Phase 3: Impregnation and protection
This is the most important stage that will ensure that betoniq furniture is waterproof and almost maintenance-free .
-
Basic Impregnation: A deep impregnation is applied to a perfectly dry and clean surface , which strengthens the material and prepares it for the final varnish.
-
Polyurethane Varnish (Sealing): This is followed by the application of a final polyurethane varnish in several layers. This varnish is what protects the furniture from coffee stains, wine stains and scratches. The waiting time between each layer of varnish is long, but necessary to create an extremely durable film.
-
Perfect hardness: The protective layer takes another 48-72 hours to fully cure, so the entire process from design to final product takes at least 5-7 days .
Why is this manual work your advantage?
By purchasing from betoniq you get:
-
True Patina: No machine can replicate the unique marks of troweling and hand sanding. You get a piece of art.
-
Maximum Durability: Strict adherence to technological procedures in each layer ensures that the furniture will not crack and the protective layer will last for years.
-
No serialization: Every piece, whether a side table with a stone top or a lamp , is an original. This is exactly the value that cheap, mass-produced concrete imitations cannot offer.
Thank you for sharing your passion for quality craftsmanship and unique design with us. We believe that the resulting piece will bring you joy for as long as you feel at home with it. <3
